Why are there duplicate notebooks in my Sandbox repository?

Some Sandbox users may notice that there appears to be duplicate or out-dated notebooks in their Sandbox home directory. They may appear with slightly different titles, as for the “ALOS_PALSAR…” notebooks below.

In this example, we can see that the first notebook was ‘Last Modified’ two months ago whereas the second was updated recently, along with other notebooks in the repository. We can assume that the first notebook is outdated and remove it, as below.

Sometimes it can get confusing identifying which notebooks are most up-to-date; cross-check your home directory with the Sandbox notebook gallery

More advanced users may want to clone the entire repository using Github: follow the introductory tutorial on version control with Git.

How to restore accidentally-deleted default notebooks

If you accidentally delete a default notebook, it will reappear when you restart your Sandbox server. Any changes to a default notebook will also be overwritten if the file name or path has not been altered.

Create a separate folder for your files

Digital Earth Africa recommends creating a new folder in the Sandbox home directory to store any files you create or edit. This prevents confusion with the default repository notebooks.
