How to add Digital Earth Africa Coastlines Web Services to Esri ArcMap

Digital Earth Africa Coastline service is a vector dataset that provides free access to more than 20 years of shoreline changes rates and location  across the African coast to support sustainable coastal areas management.

This dataset is distributed via OGC-compliant webservices (OWS) that can be consumed by ArcMap. The procedure below explains how to import Coastlines into ArcGIS 10.6.1.

  1. Open ArcMap.

  2. Click on File > Add Data > Add Data or the icon in the top tool menu

  3. Select GIS Servers in the  muti choice look up table.

  4. Select Add WFS server  for the web feature service (Vector data) or Add WMS server for the  Web Map Service (raster)  in the pop up window.

  5. Click add.

  1. Copy  the entire following addresses in the Service URL box

  2. Click then on the Get layers button

  3. Select layers you want to import by ticking the boxes or click on Select all to import all layers (default).

      10. The server should now appear in the list of GIS servers in the first window. Click on the server and click Add      

      11.  Expand the WFS connection in the Catalog window


      12. Drag the feature classes you want from the service to the map Table of content
